Raul J Mendez’s work is an attempt at assessing the zeitgeist of the American Condition at this juncture of the early 21st century. It is a dialogue with current events and intercepted psychic transmissions as much as conversations with the work of other artists, authors, filmmakers, etc.
His work is exemplified by painting and drawing on one extreme, and research-based multi media installation works on the other, as well as explorations in music and sound, film, video and performance. These different approaches blend fiction and fact in order to create fragmented narratives that interrogate the psychogeography of the spaces , people and things surrounding us.
Raul was born in Venezuela, received a BFA in Painting & Drawing from PNCA in 1997, live & maintain a studio against a forest in Portland, OR, and support my art habits by working as a 767 cargo pilot
Raul’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and can be found in public and private collections..
